Rules for Competition:

  1. Points and titles will only be awarded and recognized for IHDA members. If a competitor is not a current IHDA member, the points and titles they received prior to membership will not be recognized. This rule applies to both professionals and amateurs.
  2. Competitors must choose a level (novice, intermediate, or advanced) that they feel they are most suited and dance at that level consistently.
  3. A competitor may dance at their chosen level and one level above their chosen level. If a competitor chooses to dance and is allowed by the event director to dance up 2 levels at an event, the IHDA will recognize both levels.
  4. If the competitor places in the top 3 at an IHDA sanctioned event at a chosen level, they can not dance in any level below that awarded level from that point forward.
  5. If a competitor places in the top 3 of the more advanced level (one level above their chosen level), they may not dance in the lower level from that point forward.
  6. If a competitor places First at an IHDA sanctioned event with 3 or more competitors, they have an option of moving up from that point forward or they may dance at that level for a full calendar year but must move up to the next level in the following year.

Rules for Bookends:
Points will only be awarded and recognized for IHDA members. If a competitor is not a current IHDA member, the points they received prior to membership will not be recognized. This will be an open division for both professionals and amateurs. Bookends will be judged by a professional judging panel with a spotlight final. Competitors can choose their own partners. Music will be chosen by the Event which will consist of one fast and one slow song for a minimum duration of 1 minute and 30 seconds at each speed. Competitors will be judged as couples and all lifts, dips, and side-by-sides are allowed (This means Anything goes!!!!).

There will be a preliminary heat to determine the finalists who will advance to a spotlight dance and, depending on the organizers time allotment for this category, there will be a minimum of three couples with a maximum of six couple in the FINAL spotlight dance to determine 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place.
